Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 18: The CD Block of Little Andaman conducted a Block-Level Training Program titled ‘Role of Gram Panchayat in Preventive Measures of Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases.’ This initiative was part of the ‘Rasthriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ (RGSA) and aimed to empower local community members with essential knowledge and practices to address health issues.
The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, Shri S. Paramanathan, Pramukh of Panchayat Samiti in the presence of Shri Belthazer, Block Development Officer, Dr. Vishal Mandal, Extension Officer, and Domain Experts, Dr. Namita Gopal and Ms. C. Vijya. The programme focused on health and sanitation and women empowerment.
Dr. Namita Gopal provided a comprehensive overview of both communicable and non-communicable diseases, emphasizing their impact on community health and highlighting prevention and management strategies. She noted that Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) pose a significant global health challenge and stressed that early detection and prevention can save lives. She emphasized the critical role of Gram Panchayats in implementing preventive measures and fostering health awareness.
Dr. Samresh Dey from PHC Hutbay further discussed the importance of community involvement and the role of yoga and meditation in promoting better health and also highlighted practical strategies for disease prevention, including the importance of sanitation, nutrition, and regular health check-ups.
The training program gathered key stakeholders, including the Pradhan, Panchayat Secretary, Mukhiya Sevika, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM), ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers from Little Andaman, reinforcing a community-driven approach to combat these health challenges.
The objective of the training programme was to empower local leaders and community members with essential knowledge and practical strategies to address various grass root level health challenges to prevent the spread of communicable and non-communicable disease with active involvement of the key stakeholder to achieved the LSDG target of ‘Healthy Panchayat’.
