Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 15: During the month of July and August this year, the Islanders had to encounter dearth of certain essential commodities. The business communities were worried as the normal berthing arrangement of coastal cargo ships commuting between Sri Vijaya Puram and Chennai got disturbed due to a new order passed by the chairperson Chennai Port Authority (ChPA). Due the this M/s TCI Seaways, which happens to be only Shipping Company commuting in the said route had to suffer for early berthing, timely loading and departure. On hearing about the problem the Member of Parliament rushed to Chennai to meet the Chairperson of the ChPA and discuss the matter for amicable settlement.
Simultaneously, the MP also wrote a detailed letter to Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways requesting his intervention in the matter and to ensure that the berthing, loading and departure of TCI ships bound for Sri Vijaya Puram are not delayed.
In response to MP’s letter the Minister sent a reply stating that necessary directions have been issued to ChPA authorities to ensure that the berthing of Costal Cargo Ships to and fro to Andamans be prioritized and that the essential commodities reaches the isles on time.
