Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 14: Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration conducted an informative and impactful awareness program on the “Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse”. Held under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) banner, this initiative targeted Child Helpline (CHL) and Women Helpline (WHL) staff. The program aimed to educate employees about the importance of reducing drug demand and their role in combating substance abuse within the community.
The program began with a comprehensive session led by Ms. Anchamma, Project Assistant under NAPDDR. During the event, she emphasized the importance of community involvement in reducing drug demand. Ms. Anchamma encouraged staff to be proactive in spreading awareness and supporting individuals affected by substance abuse. The event concluded with a commitment from all participants to actively contribute to the NMBA’s ongoing efforts and promote a healthier, drug-free environment.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director, Directorate of Social Welfare, expressed deep concern about the growing issue of drug abuse and its widespread societal consequences. ‘Drug abuse is not just an individual problem; it affects families, communities, and society as a whole,’ he emphasized. Dr. Nitin Shakya stressed the urgent need for comprehensive programs that focus not only on rehabilitation but also on prevention and awareness. ‘When a person falls victim to addiction, it’s not just their life that’s at stake. The ripple effects are felt throughout their family, their community, and the entire society’.
