Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 14: The Chief Secretary chaired a comprehensive review meeting today to address the long-pending issues related to boat surveys, boat registration and revalidation with key stakeholders including the Port Management Board (PMB) and the District Administration. The meeting focused on accelerating approvals and enhancing processes to support the maritime and tourism sectors in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
During the discussion, it was agreed that all pending approvals for boat-related matters will be expedited, with a firm deadline set for 31st October 2024 to ensure their timely clearance. This decision is expected to bring significant relief to boat owners and operators who have been awaiting approvals, thereby improving operational efficiency across the islands.
Another crucial issue discussed was the renewal of Certificates of Competency (COC) and GP ratings for maritime personnel. Recognizing the importance of skilled manpower in the region’s thriving tourism industry, the Chief Secretary directed the PMB to simplify and fast-track the renewal process. After due examination, this streamlined process is anticipated to ensure an adequate supply of qualified personnel for boat operators, helping to boost tourism and economic activity in the region.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the need for close coordination between the PMB, District Administration and other stakeholders to ensure the effective and timely resolution of these issues.
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration remains committed to support the maritime industry and promote tourism as part of its broader development agenda.
