Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 07: To mark the 70th Wildlife Week, the Andaman Avians Club organized a bird watching excursion at Chidiyatapu, near Hotel Symphony Samudra, on October 6, 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness about wildlife conservation and showcase the diverse birdlife of the Andaman Islands.
Open to both club members and the public, the two-hour walk attracted approximately 25 participants, including volunteers. Led by experienced birders from the club, the group was divided into smaller teams for a more personalized experience. Over the course of the walk, participants identified around 30 bird species, including several migratory birds such as the Brown Shrike, Asian Flycatcher, and Amur Stonechat.
Club members shared their knowledge and expertise on birdwatching techniques, while Ms. Sara from Pondicherry University offered insights from her own birding experiences. The walk was coordinated by Mr. D. Kishore Kumar, General Secretary (Admin).
True to its motto of “Observe, Preserve, and Educate,” the Andaman Avians Club continues to engage the local community in efforts to protect and appreciate the island’s rich biodiversity.
