Port Blair, Oct 7: Ahead of the planned protest and bandh on October 8, 2024, the District Magistrate of South Andaman, Arjun Sharma, IAS, has issued an order to regulate public assemblies, citing concerns over potential disruptions to daily life and essential services. The administration, aiming to maintain public peace and order, has designated Tiranga Park, located in front of the Mohanpura Bus Terminus, as the sole permitted location for any gatherings or protests on the day.
The order, issued under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 and Section 30 (2) of the Police Act, 1861, mandates that any assembly or procession associated with the bandh must take place at the specified location. Authorities are directed to issue necessary licenses for conducting such gatherings while ensuring compliance with the regulations.
The decision comes after the administration received information from various sources suggesting that unregulated assemblies could lead to a breach of peace and inconvenience to the public. The order is part of the district’s efforts to ensure that the protest proceeds peacefully without disrupting the normal functioning of the city.
Citizens are advised to adhere to the designated location for the protest, and authorities are expected to enforce the order to avoid any public disturbances.
