A&N Islands are blessed with hot-spot tourist destinations. The prime attraction of National Memorial Cellular Jail and Baratang remain unparalleled. The palm-fringed beaches with white sand and clear aqua-marine waters of Corbyn’s Cove, Mahua and Wandoor are crowd pullers at sunset time. Encashing upon the pristine beauty, these hotspots have been identified for the solar-enabled Smart Carts with mPOS and bill printers, which have been sanctioned to the 10 SHG ladies through the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission. To give a sleek look, cabinets to stock the raw materials, shelves to showcase the handicrafts, provision for gas cylinder and fire-proof and water-proof materials have been used while fabricating the smart carts.
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Rural Development appreciated the innovative concept of ‘token’ amount invested by the SHG ladies, to make the SHG ladies own up the project. She congratulated the joint efforts of NABARD, ANIRLM and ANIIDCO which has led to a synergy of benefits for the SHGs of the Islands.
