Port Blair, Aug 04: The “Kuposhan Mukt and Anemia Mukt District Abhiyaan” was launched in Port Blair to combat malnutrition and anemia in the South Andaman District. The initiative was inaugurated by Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (SA), Mr. L. Kumar, IAS, Secretary of Social Welfare, and Mr. Anand Vardhan Mishra, Director I/c, Social Welfare.
They distributed nutrition kits to malnourished children and anemic women. This campaign, coordinated by the ICDS, Directorate of Social Welfare, and Directorate of Health Services, and supported by NGOs, represents a significant effort to improve health and address nutritional deficiencies among vulnerable populations in the region.
The Kuposhan Mukt District Abhiyaan aims to combat malnutrition by providing comprehensive support to malnourished children and pregnant women through the distribution of nutrient-rich diet kits. The Anemia Mukt District Abhiyaan focuses on reducing anemia prevalence among pregnant women through targeted interventions, including iron and folic acid supplementation and regular health checkups.
During the inauguration, DC (SA) emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging NGOs, individuals, and businesses to come forward and support malnourished children and anemic women by providing nutritional kits.
These initiatives are designed to supplement government efforts and ensure sustained support to improve health outcomes for these vulnerable groups.
The Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman reiterated the administration’s commitment to enhancing health outcomes and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all residents of the district. The nutritional kits were generously sponsored by SBI Bank Port Blair, along with the support of With You NGOs and Hope Foundation NGOs.
