Port Blair, Jul 25: The Department of Agriculture at Diglipur has organized a demonstration on “Preparation of Biopesticides formulation viz. Neemashtra, Jeevamrit and Vermicompost in vermibed” in the field of Mr. Amar Mal S/o Late Prafulla Mal R/o Madhupur village under Gram Panchayat, Madhupur on 25/07/2024. The demonstration was attended by 20 farmers of the area and Zilla Parishad Member, Mr. Shribash Chandra Das.
At the outset, Assistant Director (Agri)(I/C), Diglipur welcomed the gathering and briefed the importance of Organic farming in view of the ill effects of chemical fertilizer and pesticides to human beings and environment. Further, the importance of Neemashtra, Jeevamrit and Vermicompost for organic cultivation of crops was explained in detail for adapting sustainable agriculture techniques.
Also emphasized the use of Jeevamrit and Vermicompost for natural, nutrient-rich, organic fertilizer and bio-fertilizer in traditional farming to promote healthy crop growth. The use of broad-spectrum bio-pesticide & fungicide, Neemashtra to control insects-pests & diseases in organic farming was also briefed to the farmers. It was informed that Neemashtra made from neem extracts act as repellents, growth inhibitors and toxins that directly poison pests like aphids, termites, and caterpillars.
Vermicomposting technique by the use of earthworms in Vermibed and use of Vermiwash was also explained to the farmers. Later on, demonstrated method of preparation of Neem Ashtra, Jeevamrit and Vermicomposting to the farmers by Dr. Suhasini, BTM. Earlier, Mr. K. Mohd. Waseem, Sub-depot Incharge also briefed about the schemes implemented by the Department of Agriculture.
Similar programmes were organized on mission mode from the month of June, 2024 and as on date 28 nos. of demonstration on “Preparation of Neemashtra and Jeeva amrit” and 04 nos. demonstration of Vermicompost through Vermibed” in Subashgram, Khudirampur, V.S. Pally, R.K.Gram, Madhupur , Hathilevel, Mohanpur, Nabagram, Sitanagar, Swarajgram, Kalipur, Durgapur, Rabindrapally, Milangram villages of Diglipur Block benefitting 190 farmers.
