Hutbay, Little Andaman, July 03: The residents of Rabindra Nagar Panchayat in Hutbay, Little Andaman, are facing significant communication challenges due to persistent network issues with the BSNL service, the only network provider in the area.
The state of BSNL tower, coupled with a lack of power backup generators, has left the community struggling, especially during power cuts when the network crashes entirely.
Pradhan of the Rabindra Nagar Panchayat, Mrs. Sangeeta Biswas highlighted the severity of the situation, stating that the dilapidated condition of the BSNL tower is a major concern. “The tower is in very bad conditions, and without power backup generators, the network becomes unusable during power cuts,” she said. This has rendered it extremely difficult for residents to communicate, impacting daily activities and becoming particularly problematic during emergencies.
While talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, she said, “We have only BSNL network in our island, and its unreliability is causing severe disruptions. The lack of a stable network means that essential work gets delayed, and during emergencies, the situation becomes even more dire.” She further mentioned that despite numerous complaints to the BSNL office and the District Commissioner’s office, no action has been taken to resolve the issue. Even a protest by the residents failed to bring about the needed changes.
The communication gap due to these network issues has been a major source of suffering for the people of Rabindra Nagar Panchayat. The community is urging the authorities to take immediate action to improve the condition of the BSNL tower and provide power backup generators to ensure a reliable network, especially during power outages.
