Hutbay (Little Andaman), July 02: Mr. M. Vasudevan Nair, the Zilla Parishad Member of Hut Bay, has voiced concerns regarding the current online ticketing system, which he says is causing significant difficulties for the general public. Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, he highlighted the challenges faced by residents in booking tickets online.
“For many remote villagers, it is very difficult to take tickets online,” Nair stated. “Many people lack the knowledge to book tickets online.” Currently, only 30% of tickets are available at the ticket counter, while the remaining 70% must be booked online. This imbalance creates a problem, especially for those unfamiliar with digital processes.
Mr. Nair explained that the lack of knowledge and awareness means many people often take a long time to book tickets. Adding to the frustration are network issues, which frequently disrupt the booking process. “By the time they manage to book, the tickets are usually finished,” he added.
The difficulties do not end there. Cancelling a booking of online tickets also takes considerable time, further complicating travel plans. Furthermore, the costs associated with online booking are another burden. Computer shop owners charge between Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 per ticket. For a family of four, this can mean an additional Rs. 400, which is unaffordable for many in remote villages.
In light of these issues, Mr. Nair has demanded that at least 50% of tickets should be issued at the ticket counter. This would allow more people who are not comfortable with online booking to access tickets. “There should be an awareness program to provide instructions on how to book tickets online,” he suggested, aiming to improve the situation for all residents.
