Member of Parliament proposes for Appointment of three Nominated Members in SA Zilla Parishad as well as N&MA Zilla Parishad and reserving one seat for women

Port Blair, May 15: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has proposed the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to appoint three Nominated Members in South Andaman Zilla Parishad as well as N & M Andaman Zilla Parishad and reserve one seat for women.
In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands the Member of Parliament mentioned that there is already a system in place of nominating three Nominated Councillors in the Port Blair Municipal Council. This initiative, he said, has undoubtedly contributed to enhancing management efficiency and effectively addressing public issues within the PBMC.
In this regard he suggested reservation of one seat for female candidates among the three Nominated Councillors. This step will not only provide women with a platform to actively participate in decision-making processes but also signify our collective dedication to fostering a more inclusive and equitable society, he said.
Building upon the success of this initiative in the PBMC, he requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to implement a similar mechanism within the South Andaman Zilla Parishad as well as the North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad. He proposed the appointment of three Nominated Members to each Zilla Parishad, with one seat reserved for a female candidate.
“Such a provision would not only enhance governance efficiency and representation but also uphold our commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment at the grassroots level,” the Member of Parliament added.
