Port Blair, Apr 15: On the occasion of 69th Fire Service week, the Directorate General Fire Service, Civil Defence and Home Guards, MHA, Govt. of India, New Delhi has announced DG Disc and commendation certificate in favour of officers/officials of different organization of different States & UTs.
Three Fire officers of A & N Fire and Emergency Services have been awarded Bronze Disc & Commendation Certificates. This marks a significant moment for A & N Fire and Emergency Services and A & N Police, as it’s the first time they have received such recognition.
The officers who have been awarded are:-
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Fire Service) Mr. Sandeep Lamba: – Mr. Sandeep Lamba, DANIPS, has been serving as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Fire) in the A & N Fire Service since July 22, 2022. He oversees the A & N Police Fire Service and Disaster Management Cell Unit of the Andaman & Nicobar Police Department. On November 12, 2023, Port Blair witnessed two major fire incidents at Phoenix Bay and Dairy Farm on the eve of Diwali. Under his supervision, both fire incidents were successfully extinguished. Additionally, he introduced the innovative “Fire Mitra” Scheme and enlisted 167 volunteers to support the Fire Service.
Inspector Fire Brigade J Edwin Fernandez: –
Mr. J. Edwin Fernandez joined the A & N Police Fire Service as a Sub-Inspector in 2006 and was promoted to the rank of Inspector Fire Brigade in 2017. He has served in various Fire Stations, contributing significantly to saving lives and properties on numerous occasions. He played a vital role in implementing OBPAS (Online Building Plan Approval System) for pre-constructional activities of PBMC to minimize fire risks in newly constructed commercial/residential establishments and introduced e-office management in A & N Fire and Emergency Services.
Sub Inspector S Sanil:-
Mr. S. Sanil joined the A & N Police Fire Service as a Sub-Inspector (Fire/Station Officer) in 2009. He has provided exemplary service in various Fire Stations, making significant contributions to saving lives and properties during fire incidents and mishaps.
The Director General of Police, ANI Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva has extended appreciation to the awardees, expressing pride in their achievements and hoping that the recognition would inspire others. The Bronze Disc is considered for award to the officers and personnel of the fire services who had an unblemished record of service marked by ability and merit and outstanding performance during the Fire and Emergency Calls.
