Port Blair, Apr 02: The Communist Party of India (M) today unveiled its election manifesto for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, focusing on key issues concerning the region and its people.
Mr. Vijoo Krishnan, Central Committee Member, CPI(M) and General Secretary, All India Kisan Sabha released the local manifesto for Andaman and Nicobar Islands and outlined the manifesto’s highlights, emphasizing the party’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the local populace.
Addressing media persons he said that despite promises made by the current government, the situation regarding job creation, farmers’ welfare, and economic stability has worsened in the past decade.
He added that the Communist Party pledges to fight against communal forces and work towards inclusive development for all sections of society.
Addressing the gathering Mr. D Ayyappan, the CPI(M) candidate for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections for Andaman and Nicobar Islands LS Constituency said that the manifesto includes plans for promoting and protecting the local industries, ensuring job opportunities for the youth, and safeguarding the environment.
He said that if the CPI (M) candidate is elected, the Party shall endeavor to achieve the following demands, in addition to the All India Manifesto of the CPI (M) for
the 18th Lok Sabha election:
1. Promoting, protecting and preserving of the islands’ unique ethos and social fabric of “unity and amity in diversity”.
2. Establishment of Legislative Assembly on the Puducherry model for A & N Islands.
3. Securing of separate Lok Sabha seat for the Nicobars District to be exclusively reserved for the Nicobari tribals.
4. Stop influx of population to A & N Islands
5. 100% job to local youth of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in Group B (Non- Gazetted) and Group C.
6. Formulation of schemes by which educated youth could get job/ self employment/ stipendiary employment.
7. Unemployment Allowance for unemployed local youth
8. Strengthening of Public Distribution System
9. Diversion of deemed forest area for developmental work in the islands
10. Increase of Old Age Pension, Widow Pension, Disabled Pension, etc. & other welfare measures for these categories of people.
11. Revival of Red Oil Palm Plantation in Little Andaman to generate job for youth
12. Planning and implementation of schemes to encourage farmers
13. Procurement of de-husked coconuts directly from farmers
14. Removal of GST on Arecanut produced in the islands.
15. Establishment of fisheries-based industries.
16. Upgrading and Augmenting Health Care Services in the islands 17. Establishment of Degree Colleges in Car Nicobar and Diglipur
18. Planning and implementation of schemes for supply of sufficient drinking water to Port Blair town and rural South Andaman.
19. Grant of subsidy on air fare as has been done in North Eastern Region. 20. Construction of bridge between Chatham and Bambooflat
21. To strive for declaring all the post-1942 settlers as OBCs.
22. Establishment of Ship Repairing Yard at Port Blair.
23. Exploration of natural gas and oil in Andaman sea
24. Regularisation of all encroachments on government land
25. House site to all landless islanders including government employees and retired government employees.
26. Acquisition of more suitable ships for inter-island and island-mainland services including cargo ships.
27. Operationalisation of UDAN Scheme (Regional connectivity) in A & N Islands.
28. Upgradation of pay of all eligible categories of employees including LGCS and HGCS.
29. Regularisation of the services of all daily rated mazdoors, contract and outsourced employees
30. To end corruption at all levels in the Administration.
31. Revival of all deemed abolished posts in the A & N Administration.
32. Creation of a Township anywhere in North & Middle Andaman District, with International Airport, Super-specialty hospital, international standard school, International Stadium, etc.
33. To have a re-look into the imposition of Deemed University in the islands.
