Port Blair, Feb 22: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to urgently repair/replace the TV Kulam Bridge and open it for general public.
In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament said that the steel Bailey bridge situated at the entrance of TV Kulam village, under the jurisdiction of Shivapuram Gram Panchayat, has been closed for public use due to its deteriorating condition. This closure has caused significant inconvenience to the residents, as it is a critical pathway for connectivity in the region.
He added that the bridge has been in a state of disrepair for several years, posing serious safety risks to the villagers. Last year, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mayabunder, ordered the closure of the TV Kulam Bridge for all vehicular traffic and pedestrians due to safety concerns. However, no action has been taken since then to repair or rehabilitate the bridge.
The Member of Parliament mentioned that the closure of the bridge has forced residents to take longer routes via CFO Nallah Bridge to reach ATR/NH 4, significantly affecting their daily lives. Children, elderly individuals, students, government employees, and workers are all facing difficulties due to the closure of the bridge.
In this regard he requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to intervene in this matter urgently and arrange to repair/replace TV Kulam Bridge for the convenience of general public.
