Port Blair, Feb 13: In a persistent plea for action, the Gram Panchayat of Laxmipur has yet again highlighted the prolonged delay in the construction of a vital village road. On January 2nd, 2024, the Pradhan of Laxmipur sent a letter to senior officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, shedding light on the pressing issue.
The focal point of concern is the construction of a village road stretching from the State Highway to Shri Nikhil Adhikari’s residence via the Panchayat Bhavan. This vital pathway serves approximately 500 residents residing in Laxmipur’s Ward No. 3, all of whom belong to settlement families that have called this area home since 1958. Despite the crucial need for this road, the community has been forced to endure life without it for decades, said Mr. Sujan Kumar Das, the Pradhan of Laxmipur village, Diglipur, North Andaman.
He added that the earthwork for the road was completed by the Block in 1984. However, the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) has yet to commence construction, leaving the residents stranded without proper access.
Expressing urgency, the Laxmipur Pradhan has urged for immediate action to address this long standing issue. With the community’s welfare at stake, the Gram Panchayat emphasized the critical importance of expediting the construction of the village road to ensure the well-being and connectivity of its residents. Through Andaman Sheekha Daily he urged senior officials of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to intervene into this issue.
