Port Blair, Feb 11: IISD conducted a survey during the last quarter of the year 2022 and obtained feed backs from travel agents and tour operators at mainland. One of the important feed backs from the guests they receive was the need for up gradation of services by hotels and tourist friendly behaviors’ by hotel staff. Further the hotels ‘self-styled grading as star hotels’ and pricing high their rooms, this sort of services harmed the very prospects of tourism and the efforts to promote Andaman as a distinct destinations, therefore IISD, in consultation with National institutes like NITHM/IIHM and also leading hotel chains at Goa and Hyderabad designed a 15 days capacity building work shop and training which they advertised through the services. There was response but not to the extent expected.
Earlier, in the post tsunami scenario when service standards suddenly dropped to zero level, IISD have conducted this sort of multi training using ‘hotel as a laboratory and class room’ so that the services provided in the particular hotel will be as per the hotel environment, standards and a limited staff can perform in all operational areas while serving their in house guests. This initiative was availed by more than 110 workers from MEGAPODE-TSG EMERALD- SEA SHELL –RESORT – GAJ INT – and a few other properties by incurring at a small amount, as the costs of travel of the resourced persons, their stay over here, boarding, transportation was shared by hotels proportionately the amount the hotels contributed was hardly anything for the benefit the hotels and the hospitality industry gained through our initiative.
Again in the post coved scenario, IISD, depending upon the number of hotels responding and joining this initiative, they will be conducting this workshop-training in the off season 2024 when the resourced persons for such training shall be from HR Units of hotels from Goa(400 rooms), Hyderabad (120 rooms) both are 5 star plus classified properties by GOI MOT.
