Port Blair, Jan 25: In a significant move to combat the rampant issue of Alcohol and Drug abuse, the Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Addicts (IRCA), has created an Awareness Programme on “Ill Effect of Alcohol and Drug Abuse” under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The programme was held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Dollygunj, Port Blair.
This crucial awareness program, one of a series of 100 planned sessions, witnessed the participation of more than 220 students and teachers. The campaign is steered by the visionary Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), underscored not only the societal blight of drugs but also outlined actionable strategies for nurturing a drug-free environment.
Dr. M.K. Mahato from IRCA commandeered the educational front, arming the attendees with in-depth knowledge on the convoluted web of issues linked to drug abuse—a nemesis that plagues communities globally. A blend of scientific insight with real-world implications rendered the discussion both enlightening and grounded.
Additionally, Mr. Ravinder Rao, representing the Art of Living, disseminated the spiritual wisdom rooted in Yoga. His talk illuminated the transformative power of spiritual practices, which offer potent means to liberate individuals ensnared by the chains of addiction.
Efficient coordination of the programme was attributed to Mrs. Anchamma, Project Assistant (NAPDDR) from the Social Welfare Department. Her efforts, along with the IRCA team, exemplified the collaborative spirit necessary to drive such significant initiatives.
