Port Blair, Jan 19: In response to the pressing healthcare challenges faced by the residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, HospiDost has launched Healthcare Assistance Services in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Addressing a press conference Mr. Anshuman Roy, representing Hindu Rastriya Shakti, highlighted that the difficulties in obtaining proper treatment, especially when patients have to travel to the mainland, have been a recurring issue. Despite appeals for assistance, many patients face obstacles in receiving appropriate medical care.
Acknowledging these concerns, Dr. Sonia Basu, a healthcare professional originally hailing from Port Blair, proposed a new initiative named “HospiDost” to enhance healthcare accessibility. With 20 years of experience in healthcare, Dr. Basu highlighted the disparities in healthcare services and expressed her commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by the islanders.
Dr. Basu’s initiative focuses on establishing a referral care center, where individuals can receive initial consultations and be referred to specialists based on their specific needs. In addition, teleconsultation services are proposed to connect patients with mainland doctors, simplifying the diagnosis and treatment process.
“Navigating through hospitals can be intimidating for individuals who might not be well-educated. The fear and confusion associated with large hospital names can lead to a sense of being lost. Providing support from the moment of arrival, guiding them through the hospital counters, and coordinating with the hospital staff can greatly alleviate their mental and physical distress. In conclusion, the entire process, from admission to discharge, requires careful coordination. Supporting patients during their stay, arranging follow-up visits, and even providing accommodation options for extended stays or post-operative recovery, can significantly enhance the overall experience. This service aims to help people in need, ensuring that they receive the best possible treatment with minimal disruption and financial burden,” she added.
HospiDost, the newly launched service, will guide patients through preventive health check-up packages, teleconsultation with specialists, and assistance in choosing the right hospital. The services also include ambulance and air ambulance arrangements, safe accommodation near the hospital, attendants to assist with processes at the hospital, and financial options for treatment costs. HospiDost strives to simplify the healthcare journey for the residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, ensuring they receive the best possible treatment with minimal disruption and financial burden.
