Port Blair, Dec 24: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has proposed the regular organization of Flea Markets, Beach Festivals, Musical Events, and similar cultural activities in remote Islands of this Union Territory.
Highlighting the success of pre-pandemic events such as the Flea Market in South Andaman, efficiently organized by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma emphasized the positive impact these events had on the local populace, providing entertainment, generating revenue, and attracting tourism.
In his letter addressed to the Chief Secretary he added that post the COVID-19 pandemic, Port Blair has witnessed a revival of such cultural events, including Flea Markets, Beach Festivals, and Musical Events.
Recognizing their significance, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma urged the extension of these festivities to remote islands, providing a platform for local artists and contributing to the economic well-being of social groups and Self-Help Groups.
“As Port Blair prepares for the upcoming Island Tourism Festival and the ensuing dry season, I propose the regular organization of cultural events in other prominent and remote islands,” stated Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma.
