Port Blair, Dec 07: The ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker has raised his strong protest over the proposal of the Electricity Department to shift the existing DG Sets from Diglipur to Swaraj Dweep to tide over the present power crisis in Swaraj Dweep.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Bhasker said “Diglipur has at present enough water in the Dam to provide for hydro-electric power station to operate. However, from this January when the water recedes, the Kalpong Project will not be able to service in Diglipur area. So, shifting of the DG Set from Diglipur to Swaraj Dweep is not prudent and I strongly object to the shifting of this generator”.
He added that this shifting of the DG Set will not be able to service the full requirement of Swaraj Dweep and there will still be shortage in Swaraj Dweep. So, some alternative measures have to be taken by the Administration.
Finally, he requested the Chief Secretary to direct the Electricity Department to reconsider it’s decision and not to shift the DG Set from Diglipur to Swaraj Dweep. An individual copy of the letters were also given to the Secretary (Power), A&N Administration and to the Superintendent Engineer, Electricity Department for taking necessary action.
