Port Blair, Nov 07: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Phase 2, is set to launch a unique and empowering initiative known as the “Women for Water, Water for Women Campaign” In collaboration with the National Urban Livelihood Mission, this campaign will celebrate “Jal Diwali” from November 7th to November 9th, 2023.
During this significant event, women belonging to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) will have the invaluable opportunity to visit Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) in their respective cities. These visits are designed to provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the intricate processes involved in the provision of clean and safe drinking water to households. Moreover, they will be educated on the critical water quality testing procedures that play a pivotal role in ensuring that citizens receive water of the highest quality.
The primary objective of these visits is to nurture a sense of ownership and belonging among women towards the essential water infrastructure in their communities. Furthermore, these visits will facilitate meaningful interactions, including interviews, promoting inclusivity and active participation.
In continuation of this initiative, Port Blair Municipal Council has organized visits to nine Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) within the Port Blair Municipal area for the members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). These visits will offer SHG members a unique and insightful opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of the processes involved in supplying clean and safe drinking water to households.
On November 8th, 2023, the SHG members will visit the designated Water Treatment Plants within the Port Blair Municipal area, commencing at 9:30 AM from the PBMC headquarters. This practical exposure is expected to be a significant step toward promoting awareness, empowerment, and community engagement in water management.
