Pertinently, on 21st October 1959, a group of Indian police personnel, who were patrolling the Indo-Tibetan border in Ladhak, faced an armed invasion by Chinese forces. In this fierce and unexpected confrontation, ten police personnel displayed remarkable courage and determination, ultimately sacrificing their lives, while defending India’s sovereignty.
The brave souls who lost their lives in the incident were posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime Gallantry Award. To honor their memory and the memory of countless other Police officers who lose their lives to protect the nation day in and day out, the Government of India declared 21st October as ‘National Police Commemoration Day’.
It is a day of reflection and gratitude, when we come together as a nation to pay tribute to the resilience and unwavering commitment of our officers & personnel of various police organizations/forces.
