Port Blair, Sept 28: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has once again raised the issue of severe shortage of beds in Girls’ Hostels of JNRM and ANCOL with the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
During a meeting with the Chief Secretary on 27 September 2023, the Member of Parliament requested the Chief Secretary to to expedite the completion of two under-construction hostels inside JNRM & ANCOL, so that all girl students from different parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands can get safe Hostel accommodation in Port Blair.
He mentioned that the construction of a 125-bed hostel in the JNRM girls’ campus is about 90% complete, while a 100-bed hostel within the ANCOL campus is approximately 85% finished. Yet, for reasons unknown, these projects are yet to be finalized and made available to students. “This delay is causing undue stress and inconvenience to our new girl students of remote Islands,” he mentioned.
During the meeting the Chief Secretary assured the Member of Parliament to address this issue as soon as possible, so that girl students get safe hostel accommodation at Port Blair.
