Port Blair, September 1: On Tuesday night, August 29, an unidentified and severely decomposed male body was found hanging from an aged tree in the dense jungle near Brichgunj Village, adjacent to the quarry area. The matter was immediately reported to the Pahargaon Police Station.
Given the challenging terrain and remote location, initial assessment and access to the scene proved arduous. It was only on the following morning, Wednesday, August 30, that a dedicated police team managed to reach the area. There, amidst the jungle’s labyrinth, they uncovered the remains of a male victim, estimated to be between 40 and 45 years old. The deceased was clad in clothing and footwear.
As per preliminary investigation, the body was identified as that of Mr. Sanjay, a Brichgunj resident, approximately 40 years old, and an employee of the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC). Mr. Sanjay had been missing since August 2022, and a missing person report had been filed last year.
The circumstances surrounding Mr. Sanjay’s death remain shrouded in mystery. The challenging location of the incident, coupled with the advanced state of decomposition of the remains, has posed significant hurdles for investigators. To shed light on the matter, the crime forensic team was summoned to the scene to conduct a thorough examination.
After the necessary legal formalities were completed, the deceased’s body was transferred to GB Pant Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination.
Mr. Rajesh Ram, the ward councillor of the area, offered insight into the tragic turn of events. He revealed that Mr. Sanjay was not only known to the community but used to live in his house. The identification of the deceased was facilitated through clothing and footwear.
It is still unknown how Mr. Sanjay had reached the particular site which is very difficult to reach. Mr. Rajesh Ram has extended a plea to the Police Department for a comprehensive investigation into this tragic incident.
Considering the difficult terrain, there are many who believe that this could be a murder and the police department is also investigating in all possible directions.
