Port Blair, Dec 28: The Medical Superintendent of G B Pant Hospital has reportedly begun inquiry in the issue of ‘missing doctors’ of G B Pant Hospital. On December 24, 2012 issue, Andaman Sheekha had reported that how a patient was crying for treatment for nearly two long hours at G B Pant, as there was no Doctor or X-Ray technician to attend him.
According to reports, the MS has asked for written explanation from doctors concerned, who were supposed to be on duty that day.
Sources not told Andaman Sheekha that on the day due to negligence of one doctor the patient had to suffer for nearly two hours. Actually at Emergency Section there was one doctor, whose duty is to see emergency patients and intimate other doctors on ‘call duty’ to attend serious patients.
The said doctor, Doctor –I, had reportedly intimated, Doctor II, about the patient and requested her to see the patient but according to reports even after several calls Doctor II did not turned up, which lead to the suffering of the child.
It is only when the Director of Health Services intervened, things fell in line and a Doctor attended the patient at around 6.10 pm.
For Doctors sitting in Emergency section of OPD, it is impossible to attend every such case and run with the patient, as in that case other dozens of patients who come with minor and major injuries or problems, will have to suffer.
Now the question is when Doctor I had intimated Doctor II about the incident on that day, why Doctor II did not turned up? Will the Secretary Health will look into the issue, so that such mistakes are not repeated. Why in a prominent hospital like G B Pant, we can’t have X-ray technicians 24 X 7 on duty? Why doctors on call, do not turned up on time?
When asked a senior official of Health Department has confirmed that, in her written explanation Doctor- I has mentioned about Doctor II’s negligence, hope true report will reach upto the Lt. Governor and Chief Secretary.
Andaman Sheekha doesn’t have a personal vendetta against any particular person. It’s all about fighting against the evils of any system, which is the prime responsibility of media. Hope the Lt. Governor, Chief Secretary and Secretary Health will respect this and will take proper steps to make sure that tomorrow no other patients suffer for hours, because of missing doctors.
