Port Blair, Oct 03: As per the official confirmation from the Office of the Directorate of Shipping Services, Port Blair, the repair works of MV Nalanda have been completed.
On 18th August the new vessel MV Nalanda had reportedly hit Haddo Port’s RCC structure while berthing at Gate No. 04 in Haddo Wharf. The impact was so hard that the new ship suffered minor damages but massive dents.
Talking to Andaman Sheehka, a senior Official of the DSS said today that the damages sustained at the aft of the ship were repaired with the replacement of new plates. Now the ship is ready for safe-sailing, he further added. However, a survey team comprising of officials from SCI and MMD has been constituted to carry out a thorough survey in terms of the vessel’s repair works. After the survey works are complete, the CSL will impart training to the crew members of the vessel and will go for trial runs. The DSS is hopeful of re-launching the passenger vessel within a couple of days. The DSS is waiting for the necessary approval from the Administration and, once obtained, the ship will be regularly sailing with pride and accordingly the schedule of the sailing will be released, the DSS Official said.
