Diglipur, Dec 02: The jawans of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) have rescued and apprehended 128 foreign nationals from dormant volcanic Island Norcondum on 1st December 2012. According to preliminary investigation six out of 128 are from Myanmar while others belong to Bangladesh. There were also six women and a few children in the group.
Initial interrogation suggests that all these people were trying to go to Malaysia as a part of international body-shopping network. Often these people, who are mostly Rohingya Migrants, are called as Boat People by International media.
A Coast Guard ship along with INS Bangaram which was on a visit to Diglipur on occasion of Naval Week went to Norcondam Island and brought all illegal migrants to the Diglipur today and handed over to the PS Diglipur. According to reports two women have been admitted to PHC Diglipur because of their poor health conditions.
