TDP extends support to BJP to form council in Port Blair Municipal Council

Port Blair, Mar 13: After Bharathiya Janta Party (BJP) got 10 seats and Congress, DMK alliance managed to get 11 seats in Municipal Elections, there was suspense over the matter that which party would form the council in Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC).

Ending all speculations the Telugu Desam Party today said that it will support BJP to form council in PBMC for next five years. Meanwhile, as per details the lone independent candidate to win in this Municipal Election, Ms. D Radika, from Ward Number 23 has also extended support to BJP for next five years.

TDP had managed to get two seats in the Municipal Election and emerged as the kingmaker in forming the Council.Now BJP has 13 Councillors while Congress and alliance DMK has only 11.

The President of TDP’s state unit Mr. N Manikya Rao Yadav today told Andaman Sheekha Daily that after a series of meetings and discussions with BJP, winning candidates of TDP, party cadre and high command the decision to support BJP has been taken late last night. He said that an official release will be released by the party soon.

According to Mr N Manikya Rao Yadav the TDPs main demands for the support were overall development of Port Blair city and to regularise jobs of all DRMs and other temporary staffs of PBMC.

When asked why decision for the support BJP was taken in late night and announcement was made in such a low key manner, Mr. N Manikya Rao Yadav said that after a series of meetings with candidates and party cadres the final decision was taken yesterday late at night only.

“We have been instructed by the party high command not to support the Congress Party this time, considering the poor performance of Congress in recent assembly polls in five states. For the future of TDP we took this decision. TDP has earned support from the public in Andaman since 2010 and we hope to continue to work for public welfare,” he added.

This is almost clear now that the Chairperson for the first term of PBMC will be from BJP but the name of the candidate is still now clear.
