Port Blair, July 08: The Tribal Development Council has now urged the Administration not to send teachers to Tribal areas of Nicobar till actually classroom teaching starts in all schools.
Considering the growing threat of Corona Virus and also the fact that once Summer Vacation is over, large number of teachers and their family members will move out of Port Blair to different remote Islands, including Tribal Islands, the Chairman of Tribal Development Council (TDC) Mr. Rasheed Yusoof has urged the Administration, via media, not to send teachers to Tribal Islands till actual classroom teaching is re-started in school.
Port Blair presently has 74 active Covid19 cases and till not recorded 149 such cases and thus there is a fear among people in remote Islands that people travelling from Port Blair might carry infection to other Islands.
“Even if teachers or other government servants are send to tribal Islands. The Administration must put them in 14 days quarantines at Port Blair before their travel and again another quarantine at Nicobar District after their arrival to ensure safety of tribal people. The population of tribal people is already decreasing and Administration must take all precautions to safeguard tribal population,” Mr. Rasheed said.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Rasheed said that in the history of Tribals in Andaman and Nicobar Islands no pandemic has ever affected any tribal community. “If Corona Virus reaches Tribal Community then Government of India will be fully responsible for that,” he added.
Before summer vacation for two months all teachers were in their respective stations and conducted teaching online. “All teachers must be directed to conduct online classes from the place, where they are at present, without moving from one Island to another till actual classroom teaching begins. In that way there will be no fear of spread of infection,” said another Islander.
