Chowra, July 02: In the current scenario where one cannot imagine their life without mobile phones and internet, the residents of Chowra and Teressa Island in the Nicobar Group of Islands are continuing their lives anyhow without the mobile network since months.
Adding to the plight no staff has been deputed in these Islands to register complaint regarding these problems related to the telecom services.
According to the details available with Andaman Sheekha, since 07th April 2020, there is no mobile network in both the Islands as a result of which the residents are disconnected from their relatives and friends.
“There is no permanent staff of BSNL here, only one Daily Rated Majdoor is taking care of the things and he is non-technical following which there are problems in both the BSNL towers at Khalasi Village and Aurong village,” lamented a resident of Chowra Island.
Villagers allege that due to the absence of Technical Staffs of BSNL in their village, no maintenance of machines and towers was done as a result of which they are facing such connectivity issues.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, a senior-most staff in the BSNL on condition of anonymity said that there is a problem in the tower Power amplifier and that equipment had to come from Mumbai.
“We are waiting for equipment, once it reaches, the problem will be solved, the equipment has been moved and it will be arriving soon,” said the senior-most staff of BSNL.
Regarding deputing staff in these Islands, the senior-most staff said that the matter has already been taken up with the CGM.
Both the Islands with 06-07 thousand population are cut-off from the world due to such delay from the side of BSNL for months.
