Port Blair, October 29: The Cyclist of Andaman & Nicobar Island, Esow has extended financial help of Rs 20,000 to his coach recently during his visit to these Islands after he came to know that the tenure of his local Coach Mr Subhendu Sengupta of State Sports Council has not been extended and he is coaching the Cyclists here in these Islands, since last three months, without salary.
Also knowing about his poor financial condition of his local coach, Cyclist Esow immediately handed over a Check of Rs 20,000 to his local coach, which has to be highly appreciated.
Such noble gesture has also shamed the local Administration, who even after seeing the tremendous performance of the Cycling Coach has done nothing extra for him.
This is worth mentioning here that because of the efforts of the Cycling Coach Mr Subhendu Sengupta Andaman & Nicobar Islands now stands in 3rd Position in the National Level since last two years.
Instead of offering him a permanent position of Coach the Andaman Nicobar Administration has not extended his tenure since last three months because of which the coach is working without salary all these months.
Under the coaching of this Local Cyclist Coach, the Cyclists of Andaman Nicobar Islands have won 11 Gold, 5 Silver, 3 Bronze medals and also created 6 National New Records this year, both in National and International Level.
Everyone knows that if this kind of performance was delivered by a Coach of any other states he would have been provided with loads of benefit but for reasons unknown, in Andaman Nicobar Islands it is other way round.
The Local Cycling Coach has also spent thousands of rupees from his own pocket for buying spares for Cycles as it is well known to everyone that how much time the administration takes to procure an item required.
Not only this, the Director of Sports Department had told Andaman Sheekha two months back that the Department will release tender for procuring Cycles for local Cyclists within one month but nothing has not been done yet.
Andaman Sheekha also came to know that the tenure of the other coaches including the DRMs working under the State Sports Council has been extended three months back but the department has kept the extension of the Cycling Coach Mr Subhendu Sengupta, on hold for the reasons unknown.
Well it is high time, the Andaman Nicobar Administration, who is ultimately sponsoring the State Sports Council, to understand that how difficult it is for a Middle Class person, having two children to run his normal livelihood for more than three months without salary.
It is also to be praised about the Local Cycling Coach that without getting salary since last three months, he is keeping hope and faith and still coaching the Cyclists of these Islands, who are in all sports events bringing laurels for these Islands.
Hope the administration will soon extend the tenure of the Local Cycling Coach which he deserves by his previous performances.
