Port Blair, Dec 21: The day of 30th December has tremendous significance not only for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands but for all Indians. On this day in the year 1943, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the National Flag for the first time at the Gymkhana Ground, present Netaji Stadium.
A&N Administration is all set to celebrate 30th December in a befitting manner ensuring participation of general public. The main function will be held at the Memorial of 30th December, opposite Andaman Club wherein Hon’ble Lt. Governor will hoist the National Flag.
In order to create awareness on the significance of the day of 30th December among the general public and students, a series of events have been chalked out by the Administration. The Department of Education will conduct school level quiz, essay and painting competitions on the significance of the day across the Islands. A seminar on the theme Netaji and Freedom Struggle will be organized at JNRM. In order to add festivity to the occasion, ships will be illuminated and placed near Ross Island. Free entry will be extended to all citizens and tourists to visit Cellular Jail from 9 a. m to 4 p. m on 30th December 2016. The Department of Art and Culture through local Cultural organizations will be staging Street Plays and Nukkad Nataks from 23rd December 2016 onwards in public places such as Marina Park, Gandhi Park, Bus Stand etc.’ Virasat ‘-a multimedia presentation on the history and culture of the island is also planned to stage at the Cellular Jail on 30th December .
