Port Blair, Nov 29: A major disaster was averted by alert personnel of the Marine Fire Station today at Marine Dockyard. As per report a fire was reported from Master’s Cabin of Medical Ship MV Shompen this evening.
Sources said that the fire triggered at 07:11 pm inside Master’s Cabin, which was closed from outside and Master of the ship Mr. A R Pillai was not present onboard.
As a result Fire Personnel had to break open the doors of the room to control the fire, which took around 15 minutes of time. Swift action of Fire Personnel saved the vessels.
Fire Brigade sources said that the reason behind the fire was sort-circuit.
As per details the Director and Deputy Director of Shipping Services had reached at the spot when they got the information.
No one suffered any injuries in the fire accident but minor loss has been reported at the Medical Ship MV Shompen, it is learnt.
