Port Blair, Mar 30: Brigadier Sanjay Thakur, YSM, SM, has taken over as Army Component Commander on 30 Mar 12, taking over from Brigadier Balwinder Singh, VSM, who, after a successful tenure of 16 months, moves out for his new assignment.
Brigadier Sanjay Thakur, YSM, SM, a Para Commando, has a distinguished service record of 27 years, which includes important Operational, Command, Staff and Instructional appointments including the coveted Command of one of the finest and most decorated Battalions of Indian Army. He has vast experience in Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism Operations in Northern and Eastern Sectors as well as in Sri Lanka. He also has an enviable record in a number of Army Courses of Instruction. He has been graded as an instructor during various courses like Young Officers, Junior Command, Senior Command, Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare and Counter Terrorism Courses. Brigadier Sanjay Thakur, YSM, SM, has been conferred with two gallantry awards i.e. ‘Yudh Seva Medal’ and ‘Sena Medal’ for his operational achievements.
